Config -> Wifi settings -> make sure the Direct Mode checkbox is unchecked

no, these settings are only relevant for local wireless (which currently only works somewhat if both melonDS instances run on the same computer)

good news, we now now somewhat why the problem occurs, though we aren't entirely sure how to fix it. On that note, desmume seems to just have a big hack which by prevents it from happening.

the game first writes to the W_PowerForce register and then waits for the effects which includes that W_RFStatus is set to 9. The problem is that once in a while a packet is received inbetween (from the simulated access point) which messes with the W_RFStatus register and the code gets stuck there.

Setting W_RFStatus back to 9 allows to unlock freezed savestates. And desmume hard codes it to always read 9 for the processor. What we don't know is if some setting made would prevent the DS from receiving data or if it's purely by chance that this doesn't happen (as often) on hw.

There's no reason that a recent change made this more likely, though I guess JIT has higher chances for this to happen.

an ethernet connection was necessary for wifi emulation via direct mode, but indirect mode pretty much replaces it now and it doesn't require it nor pcap. For local wireless it was never necessary. Make sure the Randomise Mac address setting is enabled and keep the framelimiter disabled as long as both emulators communicate with each other.

EDIT: it doesn't work for me neither

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pal_Park

start the DS Pokemon game, then open your gba rom, so it will be "inserted" into the second slot

local wireless emulation is quite unstable. You can try disabling the framelimiter (though you then have to cope with the higher speed). If you want to connect to PCs, the only option is to directly connect them with a LAN cable, otherwise the latency is too high.

if you use latest melonDS from git, you can just use the import save file option I added

oh that's different. Can you ask him for a savestate and the savefile so I can take a look?

currently if it doesn't work with the fps limiter disabled, then it doesn't. Though we're working on a better solution.

1. The access point the emulated DS sees exists purely inside melonDS. In and outgoing traffic from and to it, is directed to OS means of accessing the internet.
2. Since 0.9 you don't need an ethernet connection anymore, because the indirect mode (which doesn't require it) works just as good as the direct mode.

I can't reproduce. Can you name me the server you received the Mystery Gifts from? I just tried one and had no problem with 0.9. Note that some services (especially in Pokemon) require special support from wifi servers, so not every will support them.

try disabling the framelimiter. It might not even work then, local wifi is still pretty unstable.

From what I understand in another thread is that for indirect mode to work, I need to untick all the boxes in the WiFi settings. I tried that but keep getting the error code 20110.
(I did put in the Primary and Secondary DNS as instructed on the WFC tutorial)

only the Direct Mode box needs to be unticked (the rest doesn't matter for online play). Try other wifi replacements as well. If you're trying to play Pokemon online, note that not every service implements every functionality.

in it's current state local wireless it's only really usable for things like Pokemon trading where it doesn't matter if it runs faster and where you can try a bunch of times if it fails without it being too annoying.

God I'm having this same issue with the new update, in the last build it works fine, I guess something broke the local play in this version?

have you tried this: https://melonds.kuribo64.net/board/thread.php?pid=2391#2391 ?
