Maybe I'm doing something completely wrong, but I can't seem to get any of the Action Replay cheats to work in Animal Crossing Wild World. If anyone has success with getting these to work, it would be awesome if you could explain how you did so.

Well, first of all, you need to make sure that the AR code you are using matches your version of the game.
There are two versions: 1.0 and 1.1, and some regional variants. So, if you have the version 1.1, the codes for 1.0 will not activate properly.

Ok, on MelonDS menu, go to System > Enable Cheats and check it.
Then go to System > Setup cheat codes
A new window will appear. Click on New Category, then New AR code.
On the right side, there will be a field written: "(enter AR code here)", you just paste your code in there, then click OK.

Ok, for making the code activate, you need to press an activation key, usually it is (L+Up) or (L+R), you need to press these buttons together.
And then it should work.
