Lately, we have seen more and more people asking us about the site at melonds.org, so I feel compelled to write a post to clarify the situation.

That site is a fake site.

It is part of a larger network of fake emulator sites (like desmume.com) that only exist to leech SEO traffic and confuse users.

The only real melonDS website is the one you are currently looking at: melonds.kuribo64.net.

What can we do?

I intend to add a splashscreen to melonDS with the URL to this site, to make things clear. The URL is also printed in the console, but since melonDS release builds don't really come with a console window anymore, well...

Other than that, spread the word, so people don't get confused.

Also: it appears that Bing (and by extension DuckDuckGo) has decided that melonds.org is the legitimate site, and has removed our site from their search listings.

So, if you can, help us fix that. Report the fake site to Bing or DuckDuckGo.

You can also directly report them to their registrar: abuse-contact@sav.com

Thank you.

Noticed it last week. At first, I thought you updated the website.
Didn't download anything, the missing update blog and the lack of a link to the Github page was a massive red flag.

@Klauserus @Explore

protip: if the zip is encrypted that's a bad sign right away. people like to encrypt malware inside archives because virusscanners can't decrypt the data stream, thus making it appear as completely fine (virustotal will false positive). please be careful of this

thank you @Arisotura for the cont'd development and this PSA blogpost <3. i just reported the scam site to duckduckgo feedback. i looked today for "melonds" and even "melonds kuribo64" and the URL didn't appear even after 2-3 pages of results. :(

i hope more reports will get the duck go-ing

A month later, it seems that this site is now the top result when searching for MelonDS on both DuckDuckGo and Bing, and the faker's been banished to the shadow realm. So that's pretty sweet :)

A little surprised you didn't register it yourself to avoid squatting at some stage, especially given how successful the project has become. Then again I guess you've found a way to deal with it already so.

Bing's index is absolutely terrible (and DDG is basically as pro privacy as Firefox, in other words, they only pretend to care), so it's no surprise in the slightest it decided to consider the fraudster as legit.

Mojeek doesn't even return the fake site at all from what I can tell (with this site and the GitHub being first, along with gametechwiki and a few other things); Yandex has this site first, then the fraudster, and then the GitHub repo in third place.

(maybe also have it so AI scrapers like GPTBot, Bytespider and Amazonbot get sent garbage text to them)

Disregard. I can't read apparently.
Still amusing that the SEO leecher has failed so quickly, though :P
