Status update
Not much to say these days, sorry about it.

Couple things though.

On melonDS, things are going to be mostly on hold until I manage to get a proper apartment and am all settled in and all. But, two things. First, Generic said that the JIT branch is ready for a beta release, so I'll be doing that. Second, as a next direction to take the project, I'm thinking about adding support for AR cheat codes.

I'll also be trying to fix the remaining issues with the OpenGL renderer, but some are going to be tricky. Also, things related to this renderer: I need to come up with a not-too-hacky solution for dual-screen 3D and upscaling, and to add support for filtering in OpenGL mode (including xBRZ or something of that ilk).

But, blegh. The apartment. I visited one a while ago, now I'm going to have to put together the paperwork and hope it isn't too late. There are other apartments I can try, but, hey, I liked that one. So, here's hoping.

Oh also, this is Nov 17, birthday of the yellow vest movement. French protest movement that started one year ago, was originally against a gas tax raise but turned radical and against precarity in general, which seems to be a common theme these days (thinking about Hong Kong, Chile, ...). Despite the fact that the movement as it is will not bring revolution, it seems to want to never end... (what kind of protest movement lasts one whole year?)

But we can see that it's having an effect on protests in general, they turn more radical now. Like recently, a student from Lyon set himself on fire out of despair after being thrown into precarity. Had that happened two years ago for example, nobody would have cared, it'd just have been "another depressive sicko attempts suicide, film at eleven". But instead, this sparked several student-led protests and blockades, including one that broke into the Ministère de l'Enseignement Supérieur.

Dec 5 is going to be the general strike, too. I first thought that would be lame, as most of these attempts were a while back, but, now, within the different context, this looks like it's going to be quite something. May also cause some trouble on my end, but, we'll see.

Anyway, happy birthday to the yellow vests. I've been following the movement closely, and even taking part in it, as it gave me hope when I was at the worst of depression, so this means a lot to me.

Question - can you run dsidumper and dsbf dump from a flashcart (R4i or Acekard 2) on a Dsi with no CFW or any other modding.

Good luck with the apartment and what not. Can't wait to see what's in store for melonDS in the future :)

To scale in OpenGL, can't you just scale all the model matrices by some value?

Hey, i'm glad you are standing for something like the yellow vests. It's kind of nice to see that people in the gaming community can be political sometimes and stand for something more than themselves. It's part of your everyday life and you shouldn't stay silent about it. Fight for it.
Kinda sucks that nobody commented anything about this but i'm not really surprised.
Also good luck with the apartment!

I might as well ask this for the future, would you by chance consider adding in CodeBreaker support as well, maybe not now but in the future? The code engine existed for the DS at one point but sort of phased out (that's why you won't find CodeBreaker codes 99% of the time on the internet now a days, Action Replay was more popular after all), No$GBA is the only emulator that supports both ARDS and CBDS. The reason I ask is because I am personally reviving it from the grave and putting it alongside my current cheat databases that I already have been doing for the Nintendo DS. The CodeBreaker DS database I have been working on isn't public yet, however I already have a ton of codes made and awaiting release when I feel the time is right for it. Thanks for taking the time to read this, great work with everything you have going for the emulator, and good luck on the new features/implementations!

is there any good reason for reviving codebreaker though?

One could ask the same question about Action Replay for the DS, knowing most of the code developers moved on to the 3DS onward. However for me personally, even though both aren't around like they used to be anymore, I don't consider either to be obsolete. I am the type of person to do the very best I can to support whatever format is out there, whether it be old and or forgotten, or common and more well known. You see for years people have always had the mindset to just move on to bigger and greater things, and while that is fine and dandy, people also destroy a piece of useful history in the long run, CodeBreaker in this case may not have been as popular or as well known as Action Replay for the DS, however that doesn't mean it should stay that way (ultimately just dead forever). It has its uses just as well as Action Replay does, just as any code format does. Look at the GBA cheat scene, it has THREE code formats that people occasionally still make codes for. What if by chance someone out there has a CodeBreaker device but not an Action Replay device (I have known a few people already in that predicament), are you just going to tell them to buy am AR device or they are sol, people should be allowed to have more options. CodeBreaker wasn't given a long enough chance to be known well enough either, hugely evident based on the lack of codes plenty of games out there got codes for, most of them only used two to three code types, 99% of the time they just used basic RAM writes, I on the other hand studied the format just like I did for Action Replay, I can personally make CodeBreaker and Action Replay codes for the DS, the real question is why not make support for it? It's not going to hurt anything at all, if anything it keeps the process going so it has a chance to be used by others eventually. I already have a small CodeBreaker DS database in the works, not a lot of games with codes to work with compared to the Action Replay databases obviously, but it's a work in progress, I am not going to just give up on it just because others don't see the relevance in it. It's the point that it's there for people to use, that is what matters the most.

I can see several advantages to having only one format. It's easier for everyone to just use the same format because then everyone has access to the same codes and there aren't any codes that are exclusive to one specific device. It also means it's easier to implement cheat code support in emulators like this one because you only have one format to implement, and it's less confusing to new users. CodeBreaker exists though so I would argue it is indeed a good idea to have support for it so as to not, as you say destroy a piece of history. It's not because something isn't used anymore that it needs to be revived though, in my opinion. As far as I can tell, CodeBreaker doesn't really have anything over Action Replay and while Action Replay doesn't really have anything over CodeBreaker, that doesn't really mean there's any real reason to revive it, especially since the DS scene is way past the point where it's even possible for CodeBreaker to become more or equally as supported as Action Replay, since there aren't that many people making codes anymore and most people that do already have an Action Replay device. Do what you want, though. I'm sure there's at least a few people who are going to have a use for it since like you said, some people still have CodeBreaker devices.

Actually CodeBreaker is capable of doing the same thing as Action Replay, no maybe you can't make 32-bit writes with most of the code types, let alone use some of the more advanced ones like Action Replay, however you can still create the same codes that have the same effect if you use what's there, you just have to dumb it down with how you make the writes, the results will be the same in the end. My goal with my databases isn't to offer codes in one that another doesn't have, my objective is to offer the same experience across multiple devices in whatever format people need.

As weird as that sounds, I'm sure you might be asking why add CodeBreaker then if it can already do the same thing, well, it's the same reason I support multiple flashcart databases for various model flashcarts. It's there if you need it, no it may not be the modern standard but it's a standard that isn't dead, one that isn't dead is much more useful than one that is dead.

The way I see it, if I'm able to do something about it, then why not do something about it? You dig?
