Why OpenGL ES and not Vulkan?
I don't know shit about Android either.

Dear Arisotura,

You are learning a lot about fat, have a road map for gba compatibility and know how to get the dsimenu to work.
There is a lot of work to do on the homebrew scene and injection is sometimes easier than emulation.
This is just an idea for you.

What about making a custom Melon Dsi menu for 3ds and dsi, that works because you are experienced, where you can inject all dsiware on the sd card and inject a virtual DSTwo plus card modified to read the firmware installed on the same SD.

Then you can make a custom Melon DS Lite menu for 3ds and dsi, where you can inject a virtual DSTwo plus card modified to read the firmware installed on the same SD and inject an EZ-flash card modified to read the firmware from the same SD.

Now you can natively run gba games on both dsi and 3ds.

Isn't this a good idea?

PS: Of course I have to add, that this on 3ds would work in dsi mode, thus not make 3ds games work

Yes, Arisotura wants a custom opensource bios and firmware, so you can make that run on both the emulator and on hardware.
Then you have an emulator and an injector!
It would be cool to see the melonds saving, resuming and closing the game.
But ofc this is all just speculation.

Oh, thank you! Sorry for not noticing. Case closed I guess.?
Edit:
Oh wait, gbarunner2 runs it in DS mode, not in GBA mode, like the nds menu does.
Case re-opened!

Funny thing.
I always liked flipnote and homebrew hacking and I used flipnotehax on my DSI before memory pit was released.
It seems flipnotehax is required for the 3DS replacing the DS internet settings (irrelevant: I could use the twilight++ Cia, but CFW is unstable, I rather buy a flashcard)
It came with a 4GB SD card, but it's almost full and if I want to download a lot before the eshop closes, I better get a bigger one.
Usually, I use a 512GB SD card for all my homebrew purposes (except my GBA flashcart), but it seems that japanese Flipnote doesn't detect it.

What size does it detect?

It's very clear that it's probably 32GB, but I'm not gonna waste money to find out it doesn't work (or that I could have bought something bigger).

Could I (or somebody experienced with tinkering on virtual sd cards) use MelonDS to find out?

And last, is this because it's an overwritten DS system application?

Thank you for your time!

I've had many ideas about creating great game-consoles, also about creating phones that look like game consoles.
What currently goes through my mind is a x86 on Snapdragon ARM device that runs Nintendo Switch and Xbox One or PS4 games.
Or even better add the AMD xclipse for ray tracing!
...And Linus' cooling system ofc
Even if it ran nothing but Windows, I'd buy it for any price.

Oke, now the less OP alternative.
Sony 3DS fiVe (Vita)

with 2 1024x576 multitouch-screens (768 Bottom), a 32-bit 1.332ghz cpu, 4GB ram (It slowdown to vita mode, has all the older cores, but arm7 is omitted).
Connect a BT controller to co-op Mario Kart on the top screen (upside down), handful of games will connect and be released on the PS5 or Switch2.
You can also multi-task: swap between 1 DS / 1 3DS / 1 Vita or 3DSV game and 1 system software (Miiverse pls)
It does PSP/1/2 VC using Sony emulation (oof 64-bit on 32-bit), it has all licensed Wii VC platforms, DS VC, Virtual Boy VC, N64 VC, GCN VC and 3DS/DSi-ware.
I don't care on which store games are published (in the same .cia succeeding format).

This way Sony can offer handhelds, continue the DS without getting in Nintendo's way and piss off Microsoft.

Posted on 11-20-23 10:19 AM, in Who knows how the 3DS 2D engine works? Link | #6316
I'm asking here cause people like Arisotura have programmed for it.

There are roughly 3 components capable of good graphics: The Teak-lite-II (only on DSi, on the 3DS it's for sound only iirc), the Pica200 (3D/general graphics) and the (LGY) legacy DS 2D engine.

Now let me take you to one of my favourite DS games, I ripped the DSi bins of: RPG TKOOL DS (&DS+). It's a rpg maker that like a lot of DS games make use of the 2D engine, cause RPGs consist out of tiles. The successor on the 3DS (RPG Maker FES) is obvious in potential re-use of the code and design. Both games have the same tilesize of 24x24 (for the DS/GBA 2D engine/PPU that's 3x3=9 tiles of 8x8).
But how, cause I thought the Legacy 2D engine was only used in DS mode.

So the question is, do 3DS games use the DS hardware, or the Pica200 exclusively.

If yes, my next question is: does it have a third separate PPU for the other eye, like the Virtual Boy seems to have.
