I don't know exactly what's going on, but while playing Pokemon Heart Gold, MelonDS sometimes freezes for up to a full minute whenever speeding up the game, just playing the game as normal or even clicking the bottom screen! This is very VERY annoying as if I am not careful, it can even crash the emulator completely.
So I ask you this: How the hell do I fix this issue? I tried giving it more Memory Priority on Task Manager, I have a good amount of RAM available, so I see no reason why it freezes in the first place! (Do note, only the visuals freeze, both audio and actual gameplay do still run normally, but nothing changes on the screen) |

So I'm playing Bowser's Inside Story, and sometimes, whenever the game is told to save via the save blocks, it can sometimes simply refuse to do so and proceeds to hardlock my game until I reset it. After a lot of careful testing, I have concluded that if you make a savestate and load it, and THEN hit a save block to save the game, then it hardlocks you.
Now, that wouldn't be a problem, just don't use the save block, only use savestates. But you see, I am an idiot. And I did just that. So I had to reload the game, which put me back to the last normal save I did, aka, near the very beginning of the game. In normal circumstances, no issue, I can just reload to my last savestate! Me: *Proceeds to load latest savestate.* MelonDS: You know what, I'm outta here. *crashes entirely* And that's the story of how my savestate somehow managed to just die, with the only other option being to start on what is basically a fresh savefile! Not just die in fact, it feels like it corrupted as now loading that savestate will ALWAYS result in the emulator as a whole shutting down. Yep! I feel like I lost a lot of progress because of this random stupid bug! And as if that wasn't enough, that save that was near the beginning of the game is erased too, thanks to a small textbox that appeared immediately after launching the game again! As if the game decided that not only should my savestate corrupt, but the entire savefile as well!! Now. I have 2 choices, either I start ALL OVER AGAIN, losing several hours of time, and never even bother with savestates; or I give up. What do I do?? |

Thanks! But just to clarify, is this kind of bug common? I feel like such a glitch would be, seeing how easy it is to accidentally cause. All you have to do is load a savestate and that messes with the ability to save the game as a whole.
Plus the whole entire savefile corrupting thing? So even if I were to do regular saves, it just vanishes to 0? Like, all that is out of the ordinary that I did was make some savestates. Other than that, no cheats, no messing with the code, no manually creating savefiles, nothing. I keep looking online if anything like that ever happened, but no! It's so annoying, I feel like I did nothing wrong and get sent back to the very start because of the simplest mistake! |
