I'm trying to use local multiplayer on 2 different pcs to trade and battle with my friend, but every time we interact in the union room it just gives a communication error.

We have tried disabling audio sync + framerate limit, indirect and direct mode, enabling "bind socket to any address" and "randomize MAC address" and using the WiFi room instead but we always either couldn't find each other or it would give this error. We tried using pictochat to test the wifi and we can join each other's room but it immediately disconnects afterwards. My internet is perfectly stable but it feels likes something to do with it is causing issues, any ideas?

Local communication over the internet is impossible, I suggest you try Wi-Fi instead with the following tutorial: https://melonds.kuribo64.net/board/thread.php?id=285

We did manage to get it to work using this method before, we could see each other in the WiFi room but whenever we tried to accept a battle it would just freeze and disconnect.

I have a theory, try using melonDS direct mode instead. To do that download npcap on this link https://nmap.org/npcap/ and install it. After that open melonDS on admin mode and then go to config > wifi settings > direct mode and then select the ethernet adapter you use to connect to the internet. Once it's done, try again. You both should do that.

I already tried that and unfortunately it did the same thing

Try using Kaeru WFC (178.62.43.212) instead, AltWFC is know for being tricky.

Just tried it now, it still gives this error when we communicate in the union room https://i.imgur.com/Iowba6p.png

Err, that's the Wireless Union room. For WiFi, you should go to the underground room instead.

that's odd, i can go into it on one of the devices but not the other. The other is giving the error code that nintendo's services are discontinued even though they are both connected to the same DNS and both worked when i pressed test connection?

That's because you have to input the DNS again after erasing the previous WFC config.

Ok, now direct mode should work, try opening melonDS in admin mode and selecting it.

it still freezes when communicating with my friend, so i guess there is something i need to do with my router?

I think what's happenening is that as soon as it tries to communicate it immediately disconnects since that is what was happening with pictochat

Nope, it may be a problem on his end. You both try restarting the game to see if it works.

At this point I'm sure it's a Router/ISP problem. Since last time we tried, the only method that worked was me hosting using Direct Connection. Check if melonDS is allowed to in the firewall settings.

ahhhh i think im just gonna give up then, i just checked my firewall and melonds already has firewall exeptions lol

Hello hello I'm back again determined to get this working, I think we managed to narrow it down to my isp blocking me from hosting somehow. What would i need to do to find the exact issue and fix it?
