(I swear this'll be the last useless thread I make.)

Well, welcome to this dumb thread that I just thought of, the melonDS ideas thread.
Basically what this thread is, it allows you to post your ideas and thoughts of what could be added/removed/changed to/from/on melonDS.

I'll give an example of what you can post, from another comment that was posted in another thread:

a dedicated screenshot button may help, snipping tool is a pain.

Obviously, we all know that melonDS is still under a heavy development process, and that Arisotura is working hard to give us a new release.
It is also unlikely that these ideas will be in the next release of melonDS, or ever.

But, in the meantime, this thread could help give ideas for development, and allow others to create builds from ideas off of this thread.

Regardless, have fun coming up with ideas!

Why did you go through the trouble of making that banner if you think this thread is useless? :P

Regardless, this can be interesting, we'll see what comes out of it. Reminds me I want to put up a FAQ somewhere, so I don't constantly get people asking "will you implement <feature>?" and other common questions.

I don't know. :P

Anyway, yeah, let's see where this thread'll go. (If it'll go anywhere, that is.)

I'm moving it to a more appropriate place.

Also, displaying low self-esteem doesn't help sell it, just saying.

Please consider implementing Dynamic Rate Control.

Hey, that's pretty cool! I'm implementing audio and I was wondering how to sync it, right now it's underflowing every now and then :P

What can I say, I'm a downer. :P

Anyway, it's nice to see that this thread is off to a nice start.

One idea I personally had would be to improve the UI. I'm very certain you're already working on that, but I personally find having to repeatedly switch between separate tabs is a little tedious.

Just thought posting this here would be better, due to the fact it fits better here than where it was originally posted.

Also ... Cydrak came up with this really awesome idea where sie uses standard Windows folders, but adds a desktop.ini file in, and you can see the NDS icon as the folder icon for the game, and double-click the game to play it. Plus a desktop.ini in the parent folder to set the view so the icons are sized well. Obviously that is Windows only. But it's an awesome way to launch games.

would love to see command-line support for most emulator frontends.

Weheeew we've got more suggestions.

But a suggestion from me is to start using CMake, I mean, that was very hard to build.

Here's an idea: A border between the two screens. It's not a huge problem, but it looks kind of weird on some games. It would also be nice to have the border be toggleable.

you can resize the window to that effect

Alright. I realize that this just came out recently, and that I shouldn't be expecting QoL features that are more on the esoteric side of things, but, if you could make it so that each screen could open in a separate window, that'd be fantastic. Like, having a top screen in one window that you could maximize to one monitor, and having the bottom screen in a separate window that you could maximize to the second monitor.

Oh, and support screen rotation. I'm sure you'll probably toss that into a build in a few months, since a few games need it and all.

In any case, keep up the good work! This is already lookin' pretty solid.

That is already a feature. If you go to "Settings" - "Emulation" and uncheck "Boot game directly", it will boot you to the real NDS home screen. You will, of course, need the bios files as you would for playing any game on melonDS.

Oh, I didn't know that. Much obliged!

as a side note, Emulation->Run with no game loaded will run the BIOS

Got an idea for a function, to increase/decrease game speed.
Some parts in game are damn slow while at other parts you'd like the game to slow down because you'd have to click some things on the screen (which can be damn annoying because you can't point it directly).

I apologize in advance if you've been asked this a million and one times, and am not sure if it's even possible. But i've always liked making hd texture packs for dolphin, and have always been disappointed in the lack of that option in any DS emulators. Just wondering if it'd be possible/worth doing.
