I am, infact, getting a job -- interview tomorrow, wish me luck. anyway, status update: 1. search page now limits how many searches you can do with a given time interval, which will severely curtail the aforementioned script kiddie's ability to take down the server 2. if you got accidentally banned, let me know 3. Scrapy has been found to be responsible for server CPU usage spikes every 4 hours. Scrapy has been shown the door. 4. several other bots have met the same fate: ChatGPT, Amazonbot, Bytespider, etc. basically, anything that a) is AI related in any way or b) takes up a disproportionate amount of server resources, isn't welcome here. (and AI scraper bots have an awful tendency to meet both criteria) 5. also, search page blocks SE bots entirely. not sure why they were allowed to go there in the first place... ____________________ Kuribo64 |
