Hello, I was playing pokemon platinum using melonds and wanted to try going to the underground. The first few times it went well, but this time if I try to leave, the top screen turns black and the game freezes. I have looked for a solution online, but I still can't fix it. I found an older thread about this, but still couldn't solve the problem. If someone knows a working solution, please share it with me.

Thank you, but I already saw that thread. I have already decided to just start over again. Is there a way to remove a thread?

I can delete your thread, idk about you. Though it doesn't really matter, we have so many duplicate threads, that's just the world we live in.

Ah ok, if there are already many duplicate threads you can delete this one if you want.

My best guess would be that it is an issue with the wireless communication system in the game. AFAIK The game launches into local Wi-Fi mode when entering the underground, so you can see nearby players walk around and do stuff, as well as secret bases. I would guess that MelonDS does not quite know how to emulate local wireless connections as I too am struggling to get a local connection set up between me and a friend. However this guess may as well be useless as its perfectly possible to have a second instance of MelonDS running parallel to the original instance and to have the two find each other in places like the union room. I personally use this method to clone make backups of my favorite Pokémon on a second save file.

Do I care if this is an old post? No, because this is still a silly little issue and I do have a fix

Personally I've never had this issue since using MelonDS, the only problem I have is with the Contests and the game freezing during the start of the second half of the final round, although after I decided to go ahead and use RetroArch and set MelonDS up as a core on that for the sake of fixing that little issue. The only time I've even had the same issue you're having is ever since I switched to using RetroArch and loading MelonDS off that; except it's not leaving the Underground that ends up freezing my game, it's actually entering it.

I found a simple fix for that though; before you enter/exit the Underground make sure to save your game and then also make sure to set a Save State file right after you save, after that you want to try and enter/exit.

If the screen stays at the transition animation, where the top and bottom screen go black, wait for a few minutes then reload your Save State file and try again.
Sometimes all it takes is just reloading your last Save State file, but sometimes that doesn't fix it, so what you do then is NOT close MelonDS and instead you want to choose Reset and it'll take you right back to the title screen of the game. Go ahead and load your save like normal and then load in your Save State file right after, or sometimes instead you need to just load your Save State file after heading back to the title screen. It doesn't always work first try though, but that's my fix for the issue.
