When changing from 0.9.4 to 0.9.5, I noticed a difference in audio output.
In 0.9.4, melonDS outputs audio in surround format by default (I can hear audios in center and rear speakers) In 0.9.5, melonDS outputs audio in stereo mode. I tested the few Castlevania titles and a few other games, and found the same results. My question is, is there a setting for outputing (upmixing to) surround format in 0.9.5 and potentially future releases? The thing is, being able to upmix to 5.1 was an awesome feature (perhaps unintended?) before 0.9.5, just like the upscaling of 3D. The surrounding audio was rich and feels amazing. These are the things that only an emulator can achieve. Thank you! |

It was never an intended feature. The DS can only output stereo audio and we don't currently have any sort of audio enhancements outside of interpolation of samples, so you would need some third party software to upmix the audio. |

melonDS does not and has not ever done surround sound. The DS does not have surround sound capabilities in the first place.
There doesn't even appear to be any changes within the frontend audio code either between 0.9.4 and 0.9.5. At most it'd just be some update to SDL internally. What you're hearing probably was the audio was just actually being presented as mono somehow and that ended up being output to all speakers, or something of that effect, not any actual "true" surround sound. |

Games do often have features to emulate surround audio. Maybe check your game's audio settings. ____________________ Kuribo64 |
