signal icon fluctuates wildly during data transfers. not a problem with melonDS, this also happens on hardware.


Pokémon Union room

the games use beacons to sense other players and also for some basic data exchange. however, trying to interact with another character in the room will initiate a local-multiplayer connection with that player.

if more than two melonDS instances are running, the connection will fail. it appears that the client shits itself and stops communicating abruptly as soon as it receives a beacon from another player (who's not part of the connection).
