To do the direct mode, you'll need to install npcap. After installing it, run melonDS in admin mode, then go to config > wifi settings and select direct mode, like this:

and then you're good to go.

So figured out the fact that i wasn't running it as an admin. But now i've just gotten a communication error bluescreen of death
