So I tried switching to openGL so my game would run faster, but as soon as I do melonDS crashes and closes itself without saving the setting. The game I'm playing is pokemon blaze black 2.

Wow, that's a terrible answer.
Er, anyway, does OpenGL work with other games?

your graphics card might be too old. In any way if you're struggling for speed stay with the sw rasteriser as it's usually similarly fast compared to the OpenGL renderer at 1x resolution scale.

Also make sure to enable the JIT recompiler.

I am having a similar issue on Ubuntu, I downloaded the official build from here (because the snap version just crashed a lot instead) and although this version works for most part, clicking the OpenGL option does nothing, as soon as I save the settings, nothing happen, when I open them again, software is still selected.

This is causing severe slowdowns and make games not work on multiplayer due to desync, on a fairly fast machine.

OS is Ubuntu, and GPU is some nVidia card I forgot name. (it is not my computer, I am setting this up for someone else).

When I clicked on the OpenGL option on melonDS the program loads for about a second and then crashes and when I reopen melonDS and go to the video settings the option goes back to software rendering and everything works smoothly after that.

My graphics card: Intel HD Graphics, the core is intel i3

If anyone knows how I can fix melonDS crashing when I switch to OpenGL, your help would be appreciated.

What's your exact graphics card?
If it's HD 2000/3000 you should try running it on Linux because the drivers there support OpenGL 3.3 whilst the Windows drivers support OpenGL 3.1.

I am using the original Intel HD Graphics there is no number after it, it's just "Intel HD Graphics".

I have a new graphics card now and no longer have the problem.
