i was halfway through my playthrough and the timer on the game froze and got desync. im unable to turn the c-gear off, or save in the game. i wouldn't mind just using savestates, but the game crashes at the ferris wheel when i want to ride with the trainer, and im concerned i'll get more crashes. how can i save it? last in game .sav is from the beginning of the game

there's nothing which can be done. You have to return to the last point where you saved.

it's atleast not in desmume, they have a pretty stupid hack to prevent it.
