1. could it be possible that you have mixed up wifi and wireless communication? Wireless is only emulated for melonDS <-> melonDS because your computer can't send a signal which the DS can pickup. Wifi on the other hand works between emulator and a real game because it requires a server in the middle.
2. Not every WFC replacement server supports all functionality (Battling, personal trading, GTS, battle camera…). https://pkmnclassic.net/ is specialised in Pokemon I think they provide most of it.
3. Don't use direct mode anymore. With 0.9 or later indirect mode (direct mode being disabled) is the recommend setting because it doesn't require pcap or an ethernet connection.

Thanks so much for the advice! Didn't know indirect mode works now so I'll switch to that. Also I think you've just helped me realize a solution to my issue by clarifying how the DS Wireless Connection works - I'll just upload the save file of my White 2 game and run it on melonDS as well, since you said between itself melonDS should work. Will update.

Edit: So I'm trying to run both on melonDS and I'm still not able to see them connect. Not only do neither register themselves in C-Gear, but I can't Send & Receive Keys in Unova Link, which was my initial purpose. I tried Direct Mode, Indirect Mode, having Bind Socket on and off, and yet the two games still can't connect to one another via DS Wireless Connections. What can I do?

Edit 2: I'm making a little bit of headway after 4 hours! So I've effectively patched the problem with C-Gear: simply setting MAC Address to randomize completely fixes DS Wireless Connection compatibility! However, there is still the problem that Sending & Receiving Keys won't work - one thing I've noticed is that this feature loads both Infrared and DS Wireless Connections, so my understanding is that the issue is in fact with Infrared. I've done some Googling and from what I can find melonDS doesn't yet have Infrared support. Anything I can do about this? Thank you.

Direct/Indirect mode only matters for wifi stuff not for local wireless. And yeah melonDS doesn't emulate IR.

Yea, thanks - got it. I think I'll just have to purchase a White 2 cartridge, put it in my DS Lite, and then emulate the Black 2 save I found with my 3DS - that's the only way to make to create an IR to IR connection. Thanks for the support.

Hello everyone, I've recently been facing an issue after setting up a new installation and trying to play Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time via WFC. After completing the Nintendo Wi-Fi setup and having a successful test connection, using AltWFC, I've gotten an error while trying to play the game itself (Communication Error; Code: 61020). According to Wimmfi, that means GameSpy Maintenance, but it's been happening over 2 days now, and my friend on PC can connect to WFC just fine. For clarity's sake, in game while navigating to the multiplayer menu I follow the path "Nintendo WFC > Connect to Nintendo WFC," resulting in the error.

Here's some info:
-Running Mac 10.15.7
-melonDS version 0.9 (I tried 0.91 and had the same error, I just use 0.9 to avoid the graphical glitches of 0.91)
-Primary DNS set to 172.104.88.237 for AltWFC

melonDS Wi-Fi Settings:
-Bind socket to any address: (blank)
-Randomize MAC address (selected)
-Indirect Mode

I'd appreciate any help or ideas on what to look at!

Sorry about that - we know about this issue.

Hello, up until last week I was able to play Pokemon Platinum Version online multiple times successfully on melonDS 0.9.1 using this DNS (178.62.43.212) and trade pokemon but now whenever I try to connect I get the 20110 error code. I have also tried using 164.132.44.106 and 172.104.88.237 as my primary DNS but nothing works.

I am also having issues connecting to any private DNS using indirect mode.

My DS error is 20100 and I'm running melonDS on a Windows 10 laptop. The emulator is on the latest stable 0.9.1 and running as administrator.

The emulator can connect to the official servers when DNS isn't set giving a "service terminated" error.

I have followed ths instrutions on this thread: https://melonds.kuribo64.net/board/thread.php?pid=1462#1462 skipping 1, 2 and 3

I tried using wwiimmfi wfc patcher to connect, and was able to get a successful connection in the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection settings. However, my game does not show any connection when I actually try to use in-game features (trading, battling).

If people still got issues with the DNS they can read how to manually patch the rom here:

Hi
I can use GTS well on GEN4, but not on GEN5,I can search for PM information, the code 13275 appears during the transaction.I used some DNS and ROM, but no effect.
Is it because of my own network problems?

You don't need any patchers for wimmfi now.

The DNS is:
164.132.44.106
For secondary:
8.8.8.8

Plus, you can access it with MelonDS.
You can check game's players currently online with this link.

https://wiimmfi.de/stats/game/mariokartds

Works, i tested it myself on Melon.

It would be cool if melonDS could set up a wireless hotspot for DS/3DS systems to connect to Nintendo WFC.

Well, from my understanding, that would require the emulator to create and configure a new wireless access point on your computer without password or using WEP security (a pretty old method). I think that is not the purpose of the MelonDS emulator.

In my case, I failed with Windows 10, because it forces you to use WPA2, I cannot create a Hotspot without password.
But I succeed with an old Android phone (Android 7) and later I configured a Raspberry Pi 4B as a repeater (using a USB dongle to connect to the Wifi and the onboard Wireless adapter as an unsecured Access Point) to do this function. It works, but it is not trivial to configure.
Then I was able to connect between MelonDs and the physical system using WFC.

I think the old Android phone method is the simplest to do the job.

Hello i'm trying to do a trainer battle in pokemon Heartgold but the other player isn't showing up. I've followed the explanation to connect to the Nintendo WFC and i can get mystery gifts but I don't see the other person (who is using a different pc but same app just using SoulSilver). We are both able to go into the union room and both are able to select the battle arena w.e it's called. But neither of us see the other.

It could be a NAT or UDP issue, the only way to solve that is either opening the required ports in the router OR using melonDS direct mode in wifi settings.
