turns out we're bad at following a roadmap, so I'll mainly make a list of must-haves for 1.0
melonDS 1.0 - must-haves * improve OpenGL renderer: atleast work on dual-screen-3D cases, maybe get filtering working * provide open-source BIOS replacement, generate firmware config data, atleast for DS support * add support for configuring paths * * separate windows whenever * 2D GPU fixes (to finish, esp mosaic) * THE MELONWIFI NEEDS MORE LOVE!! * advance the ongoing project of pixel-perfect 3D whenever, far future maybe * GBA backwards-compat ????? ____________________ Kuribo64 |

GBA backwards compatibility means GBA emulation or emulating that feature some games have when you get extra stuff when you have a specific GBA cart inserted in the GBA slot? ____________________ Nothing to say, so jadnjkfmnjamnfjkldnajfnjkanfjdksan jsdnvj m. |

Posted by poudink means GBA emulation mostly (in the context of DS backwards-compatibility mode) the latter is on the TODO list too, but that's not backwards-compatibility, it's just matter of letting the user pick a GBA ROM and exposing it at 0x08000000 Posted by Saizo7 it's included in the 'melonwifi' bit, it's essentially the same thing ____________________ Kuribo64 |

Posted by Arisotura Would this be mostly to try and improve the timings on a single PC running two instances of melonDS or have local multiplayer be playable over the internet? I did remember reading a post a while back saying it wasn't really possible to do the latter because of the timings for local multiplayer being very strict. |

hi, im a very new user and im not super educated on everything thats happening, but heres my opinion
i think that fullscreen and separate windows need to be much higher priority, and gba backwards compatibility honestly can be scrapped, theres just no need for it nowadays, if you want a quick and easy lightweight gba emulator you grab VBA, and if you want multi-emulator convenience you get retroarch regardless, thanks for being the hero ds emulation deserves |

Why would you use VBA nowadays? mGBA or Higan are much better options for GBA emulation.
I'm fine with GBA backwards compatibility. I don't think it should be a priority by any stretch but when in the future melonDS has covered most other things well enough I think it'd be nice to have. Agreed with full screen and separate windows needing to be higher. Well, I don't really need separate windows but full screen at least is something I'd consider to be quite important. You can work around the lack of full screen with external software for now but that's obviously no ideal. ____________________ Nothing to say, so jadnjkfmnjamnfjkldnajfnjkanfjdksan jsdnvj m. |

Posted by poudinkThe emulator can now do the latter. Attempt to open the GBA game in the emulator, and the DS firmware should say there's a GBA cart inserted. Then load the DS game. |

Posted by Arisotura Unless I am missing a setting/option somewhere (using 0.9.2) it doesn't appear that there is a way to start a game in full screen (like when launching from the command line). The only option appears to be dedicating a key to toggle into full screen once the game has already launched. |

That is indeed the case, I believe. ____________________ Nothing to say, so jadnjkfmnjamnfjkldnajfnjkanfjdksan jsdnvj m. |

Posted by poudink My goal was mostly to point out that if this is the case then I don't think fullscreen should be considered done for the road-map. My request is that, ideally, we would have a --fullscreen command line option; failing that, we could have the application remember if it was in full screen on the last run, and keep that state, or even simpler, if a game is launched via the command line, default to full screen. Any of these options would allow for full screen without dedicating a button to it, and allow melonDS to be used more seamlessly in game launchers. |

But it is done, it just doesn't have the feature you want. If you want that feature, you can make an issue on github requesting it, or something. ____________________ Nothing to say, so jadnjkfmnjamnfjkldnajfnjkanfjdksan jsdnvj m. |

Posted by poudink I would argue that its not done; maybe the technicality of the feature, but not the spirit of the feature. You can take nearly any game or emulator on the PC and its full screen functionality includes both being able to toggle on the fly and being able to start in that state. Full screen support with only one of these components is incomplete. |

Would implementing an option to keep the speedup function on at all times without having to keep a key pressed be possible? It would make playing slow RPG games with repetitive sections or grinding a lot more enjoyable if you could play at a set speed (120%, 150%, etc) without having to keep something pressed the whole time.
I realize I'm necroing this thread but I didn't want to open a new one just to ask that, I was already told the Android version of this that does that is not official and that's why it works different there. |

Separate windows would be a dream! No other DS emu does that. And with the Ayaneo Flip DS around the corner, that would be amazing. |

Are you guys planning to support Custom DateTime on the Firmware? Most pokemon games and other too would benefit from this. |
