Every time I let the game without making any action, the time on the C-Gear freezes after an hour and the save game screen shows errors in the time and date.

I couldn't reproduce this, on 0.8.2. So, either it was fixed by a change that was made since, or there is more to this than simply letting the game run unattended for a while.

Are you able to reliably reproduce this? What about on 0.8.2? Also, it could be worth checking to see if it still happens when you turn off the C-Gear, since local wireless in melonDS doesn't work completely well yet, and who knows if this couldn't be causing issues. Although I couldn't get this to happen regardless of whether the C-Gear was on or off, over the course of a perior of 3-4 hours.

I tried using the lid closed on 0.8.2 and I've got the same result after opening the lid 8 hours later.

Oh, so this entire time the lid was closed, whenever this happened?

That would have been good to know. I'll check and see if this happens on my end, as well.

I'm afraid I'm unable to reproduce this. Could you give clearer directions on how you make it happen every time? Because at first you said 1 hour, and you never mentioned closing the lid, and now you're talking about the lid being closed, and waiting 8 hours instead of 1. So I feel like there might be details missing, and I might be doing it wrong.

At the same time, I wonder if it's possible that the bug could be dependent on specific configurations, such as OS and hardware, and in this case it would explain why you have the issue, but I can't reproduce it.

For the time being, could you try using the Pause function on the emulator, instead of closing the lid? (System --> Pause) Because in Pokémon, there isn't really an advantage to closing the lid, if all you want to do is leave the game paused. So maybe pausing through the emulator itself might avoid the bug.
It would still be good if the bug could be fixed eventually, but if you can have a workaround in the meantime, that would probably be useful for you.

I could also suggest making a save state and closing the emulator completely, and loading the save state later once you're ready to continue, but there must be a reason why you choose to leave the emulator running instead of closing it, so Pause might be a better option. Still, if you're okay with it, save states could be an effective workaround.

The first time I didn't close the lid, so I tried the second time using the closed lid.

Today, I tried with the C-Gear off (open lid) and apparently IT WORKS!!!!!

8 hours later, I turned on the C-Gear and voila!!!!

Finally, I could make a timed survey https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Passerby_Analytics_HQ#Survey_requests

The clock timer is working well now, let's see the save screen:

I will take your suggestion about making a save state because later timed surveys need a period of 16-24 hours (OMG!!!)

Oh, timed surveys. That explains why you needed to keep the game running.

I'm not sure if using save states and closing the emu would work currently, because melonDS randomizes the DS mac address at every run, which breaks time-based events and would break timed surveys. But since you'd be loading a save state, the game has no idea that the game was even closed, and I wouldn't think the games could detect if the mac address changed during the middle of a play session. Unless restoring a save state restores the same mac address to begin with.

What I'm guessing happens, is that local wireless screws up, since it's a bit unstable, and it ends up causing issues, somehow. Especially if you have a second instance of melonDS running with another game open on it, to get tags for the surveys. Because your initial screenshot shows 0 bars of wireless signal, but as far as I've seen, it normally never drops below three bars. So something fucky has to have happened with that.

That's just my uneducated guess, though.

Hi, I experienced the same issue in Pokemon Black. Time was off by about 30 minutes and saving the game caused emulation to hang. Just like OP I noticed that wifi signal had dropped to zero some time before it occured.

I made a savestate right after emulation freezed in case it could somehow help you figure out the reason of this bug

Im experiencing the EXACT same thing in pokemon black 2, i was around the the plasma frigate on route 21, when i beat zinzolin there, my game was stuck on a black screen, i loaded a state right before the fight and when i tried to save, the game would get stuck in the saving screen, so i am effectively soft locked and unable to make progress.

This has been a known problem for some time, for now I would recommend using desmume for playing gen 5 games. Also, always rely on in-game saves, NEVER in save-states, since those are version dependant, even if they're able(which, normally, they're not) to load on another version of the emulator, they're prone to still show the problems of that version(since save-states save the current stated of the emulation).

I think that using save states is messing up with the game.
Dont use it much or dont use it at all.

I've got the same bug, any updates to possible fixes? Same setup where there are question marks in the save followed by a crash, turning off C-Gear also results in a crash. Was also using save states
