So.. hi im new here and i notice some sprite bugs in Dragon Quest IV V and VI, here's an example of what i'm saying:

you see those little pixels in the image?
they're not correct!!
according to the "original" sprites they should be looking like this:

I'm really concerned by the strange looking of the srpites in this emulator if someone knows how to fix it please let me know it with a comment.
BTW this only happens when you turn on OpenGL engine

Just look at the girl's eye and count the pixels

I can see it

which renderer, OpenGL or software?

OpenGL. Says it at the end of the post.

i could be wrong but it looks like its happening in the dirt at the bottom as well , if so then it could be an issue with the how the emulator renders the game rather than just the sprites

it's probably just a texture alignment issue

yeah i'm sure it's a problem of how the emulator renders it because in DeSmuME dosn't look like that.
here's an example:

you can see the well defined edges of the objects and the sprite is correctly

well the blurry edges in melonDS are just because you have screen filtering turned on.

To fix the issue try this, go to config > video settings and check the "Improved polygon splitting" box. Past versions of Desmume's OpenGL also have that problem, it's caused because of DS hardware that render quadrilaters instead of triangles iirc.

It has nothing to do with it

Hey keisui take a look at this:

here are the differences between desmume and melonds you can see in melonds is very pixelated compared to desmume even though i'm using the 3x internal resolution

That's an entirely separate issue, that's just due to the lack of HD display capture in melonDS.

really poudink? -_- it has nothing to do with the lack of HD capture in melonds cuz i took a screenshot from my pc.

DS games can either display a 3D frame directly or use display capture to save it to memory and show it later or apply certain effects to it (which is what DQ is doing). When a frame is display captured melonDS currently can't preserve the higher resolution if it was rendered at a higher resolution, while desmume can do this. This is what poudink meant.

They look wrong even if i use the improved polygon splitting

ah hmm , thats a bit strange , though i dont think polygon splitting would work for 2d sprites as they have no polygons really , though are the sprites messed up on desmume as well ¿

no, they don't look messed up.
I wonder why this game is so messed up in melonds

It was already answered in this thread:

- The first issue you presented (where some sprites look weird) is a texture alignment issue
- The second issue you presented (where in some scenes higher resolution rendereing seems not to work properly) is a display capture problem.

Future versions of melonDS will probably improve this situation. But currently either use the OpenGL renderer if you want high resolution rendering with the compromise of some graphical errors or use the software renderer.
