There's iPhone, iPad and MacBook (Air) users who don't have money to buy an Android phone, Windows or Linux, and they want to play Nintendo DS games on their iPhone, iPad and MacBook, so I said to myself : "What if there's melonDS on iOS and MAC OS (X)". What do you think about this idea?

maybe, if someone has the hardware and software required to pull this off. I'm not buying any sort of iPhone.

first convince apple to be less restrictive about everything. We don't even have a mac port. Also objective c *shiver*

though there's someone who does this stuff https://github.com/rileytestut/MelonDSDeltaCore

apparently it doesn't run too bad on modern apple stuff (even without the JIT or other optimisations like that), so idk I only have an old iPhone and no mac

>Objective-C

no bonus for having to use some hipster language instead of something competent like C++

Objective C is the absolute opposite to a hipster language. It's almost as old as C++, but somehow managed to be worse?

https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Nintendo_DS_emulators
There are already some DS emulators for iOS.

1. throw code to be emulated somewhere
2. make memory system that allows accessing that code

4. have fun implementing all the other hardware

it's implemented by both gcc and clang. So if you really wanted you could use it outside of apple stuff as well

o

I stand corrected

still, welp. melonDS is written in sorta-C++ and that ain't gonna change now.

Also there's a version of Wine for macOS. Couldn't you run it like that?

I think Wine would probably work but it's certainly less ideal than a native port.

Wine doesn't work on macOS Catalina, so nope

Could you not build melonDS on macOS as it's a Unix based OS?
You could install packages with brew.

For anyone who has ended up here, melonDS does now support macOS and a beta has been released here.

stupid thought, I don't understand why you'd want to service at all for the few people using MacOS/iOS given how anti-consumer Apple are, but you do you.

boycotting Apple as much as possible instead of encouraging people to stay on those underpowered shitboxes is a good thing - maybe just state support for those types of things won't be done by anyone officially, kinda like what Nestopia UE did

Nintendo's just as anti-consumer and yet here we are emulating their systems.

well Nintendo still makes good games, the same can't be said for Apple

Fair point there lol.

@RSDuck, not really in the past six or seven years aside from a few specific games which are rather niche anyways. I think only Splatoon really stands out to be honest.
