Hello, I've download recently MelonDS 0.9.5, it's been a few years since I've used an emulator...
Anyway, as the title says, all games load at 60 fps normally, but after a minute or so, it goes to 20~30 fps, after another minute or so, it goes back to 60 fps and cycle repeats, I sincerely cannot play anything like that, and I believe it's not normal since I haven't seen people complaining about it on Discord forums that I'm on... I'll post here my hardware and my current config of the emulator... OS: Windows 10 Home Single Language 64-bit (I've also tried on a Linux Ubuntu) CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor RAM: DDR4 16 GB GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Monitor Frequency 60 Hz Anything else that I may forgot to mention, please let me know Thanks in advance for your help! |

it does happen to me too , but seemingly only with the opengl renderer , apparently the opengl version that 0.9.5 got shipped with has a bunch of bugs unfortunately ____________________ petrol for breakfast |

Posted by keisui I see... Are you using an older version of the emulator then? I did try using the Software renderer but it didn't work... For some reason, when I connected my computer on the TV, it did work. But it's not a viable option for me... Besides, it's rather bizarre for the monitor being the case of a drop of fps like that. EDIT: I take that back, I've tried again while connected to my TV and the problem with FPS drops STILL happens... |

huh .. that is weird , im still using 0.9.5 as im using melonds as a test for my rom hacks and idk if going back to an older version will make it harder (multiplayer is required for some parts) but i have thought about going back to an older version for other opengl related issues
funny enough my monitor is a tv😅 so unfortunately its not a case of what display , at this point i guess the only thing to do is to go back to an older version or wait for the opengl being used to be fixed unfortunately as much as it sucks , wish i could be of more help ____________________ petrol for breakfast |

So, I guess no one seems to know why is that happening...
I don't know if it could be something with specific games... 'Digimon World: Dawn' and 'Digimon Story: Lost Evolution', the game I was trying to play in first place... I did some more search but I didn't found anything like this... I mean, it doesn't make sense! The hardware is more than enough to tank the best options of the emulator, and even trying the most modest config, these drops of 'fps' keep happening, there is no way one can play it like that... I've even used some game boosting software like Razer Cortex and it didn't work. |

unfortunately no it seems that no one knows what it could be , if it makes any difference it seems to happen to me with multiple different games as well , just strange that it still happens with software renderer for you ... i do know that this never happened with anything prior to 0.9.5 unfortunately . one thing that comes to mind though , are you by any chance using vsync either in melonds or forcing it via exteral methods ¿ i know that does cause heavy slowdowns for me as well as audio stuttering but ive never tested it with software renderer as half the reason i use melon is for its upped internal rendering and also never keep it enabled for long due to said slowdowns (different than the ones i get without vsync enabled i feel i should mention) ____________________ petrol for breakfast |
