As title says, it seems that upscaling causes the screen to sometimes flash.
It behaves a bit differently depending on how much you upscale,
but it's basically blocks that are black and the first of them is "corrupt".

Not sure if this is common or not so wanted to ask about it.

Here is a screenshot showing it.
Version: melonDS 0.9.4

happens to me too on kingdom hearts 358/2 days , seems to be an emulation issue , oddly enough i didnt used to get this issue before until the recent builds . is it by any chance a brief flash or does it stay for a second or more ¿

It's mostly random, it seems some "work" has a higher chance to trigger it than others.
And it seems to be a single frame that get's corrupted, so it's not that it freezes or stays that way, it's just, frame 1 ok, frame 2 corrupt, frame 3 differently corrupt, frame 4 ok etc.

I think it might have something to do with the rendering/drawing trying to be more relaxed.
Cause i noticed if i force the gpu in Nvidia Control Panel to always be on high performance it drastically reduces the issue.

A pure guess is that it perhaps has something to do with one of the recent changes:
Don't try to render if the emulator is inactive

I feel like i have seen this somewhere before...
where the cause of the "game" trying to keep the gpu in a low state causes corruptions.
Though I just can't recall where that was, might have been some hardware accelerated gpu encoding.

Wish i could provide something more concrete, but hopefully it might be a good place to start looking.

Also noticed that when it appears for me now (which is rare), it seems to be during heavy shadow mists effects, or when there's a cutscene (though just some?).
It feels like it might be connected to how heavy the NDS gpu is working, or maybe some parts of it.

Also what's interesting, but something i have seen before, is that during capture with OBS, the captured screen is effected much more than the one I see.

So when i get the corruptions, I get say 4 flashes in 5 seconds, but if i look at the OBS one at the same time, it gets 20 in 5 seconds.
Not sure if this is of any value or not, as i have seen that before i think OBS might just get the buffer before it's completed?
If it's relevant that could perhaps mean that this is what happens in the emulator as well, that sometimes it draws before it's actually completed (racing conditions?).
Just throwing that in there, take it with a grain of salt of course:d

quick question , do you by any chance happen to be speeding the game up at all ¿ or playing without frame limiter//audio sync//both ¿ ive done a bit of testing and it seems like these types of corruptions seem to happen a lot when sped up or the game is running faster than 60fps

No, i always had audio sync activate.
I sometimes had fps limiting on/off (thought it would made the audio crack so had it off for the most part, that wasn't the case;p).
So it was always running at around 60fps.

Surprised however that it would matter, that could perhaps help pinpoint where the issue is..
As normally speeding up just means, "do everything normally, but don't do any sleeping" which should produce the same results (just more results in a shorter time).
