Tragic news
[CW mention of suicide]

Well, today I was going to work on DMA timings (besides, the notes in the previous post aren't quite right, go figure), but I learnt about what just happened and decided I would write this post instead. This is not the kind of thing we can ignore.

Our fellow emudev Near committed suicide. While the consequences leading to this sort of event can be complex, the role bullying and harassment have played into this is clear. Those people have blood on their hands.

I want this post to be a homage to Near. Their work on emulation and preservation has been astounding. These domains are important to me, thus I've always had great respect for Near's work. The amount of time and effort they poured into this is well over what I can hope to do, so I can only commend the dedication they have showed.

Rest in peace, Near.

I also want to reiterate that we at the melonDS team stand with our fellow emudevs, and against all practices of discrimination and harassment like those that have led to the deaths of too many of our fellows already.

There is no neutral position on this matter. I cannot stress this enough. Trying to remain 'neutral' enables the oppressors.

oh yeah, this blog has its own name colors (and only has one set of these) and doesn't follow these of the board. not that it matters a lot.

also, folks, don't feed the KF/4chan trolls. I restricted comments here to keep them out, but some are still really determined (heh).

Reading these suicide things due to bullying always pisses me off, a life is lost tired of being annoyed and those guys keep on living...

I'm assuming you mean Emm_Initiative's message, which comes across as relatively sarcastic and lacking of empathy due to the wording, as opposed to the rest of the comments here, or something else that happened and you had to clean up?

I'd presume you locked down typical proxies, and possibly attempted to shut off things like Tor and VPNs too (there are ways to detect these based on the DNS hostname given if I'm not mistaken), given they'd likely never dare give their real IP to somewhere allied with a stance they despise, so yeah.

Either way, their behaviour shows up more about them than here. Pretty sure this place isn't exactly attempting to give them direct attention, but they (KF) ironically seem to try to reel drama in themselves indirectly while criticising 'attention seekers' at the same time. One rule for one and one for another, huh.
