This issue also appears in DeSmuME as well. I'm certain its definitely not the anti-piracy (as that prevents saving altogether) nor is it the ROM dump (the CRC checksum matches no-intro's).

Happens with freshly created save files too. Testing this also found a one-off bug in MelonDS where the player model was all black when loading a state from the main menu in both the software and hardware renderers. Pressing Reset in the System menu in this screen also crashes the emulator. This does not happen in DeSmuME 0.9.12 Git#8fd322w. I am using the new English translation patch applied to a known good dump of the ROM with valid checksums. https://streamable.com/wlyhom
