until Indirect Mode works more reliable, there is a workaround presented by Valery0p on Gbatemp, which works even if your computer is connected with wifi to the internet.
It requires Windows 10. Basically you need to use the option to share your internet connection (make sure to disable it turning it automatically off if no device is connected). This creates a virtual ethernet adapter which can be used with melonDS. I have tried it myself and it worked, though no guarantees what so ever, improving Indirect mode is the better solution. ____________________ Take me to your heart / never let me go! anything related to the save sync/Dreamworld is not available anymore since the services have been shutdown. If you try there's going to be a network error reported in the game.

your computer is probably just to slow
what are your specs? Try switching to the software renderer it's usually faster on low end systems. try comparing your ROM to the checksum in the no-intro databases to find out if it's unpatched. If it's not try to get hold of an unpatched ROM and see if the issue is still there (in any way using unpatched ROMs is recommended). ____________________ Take me to your heart / never let me go!
