Hi,

I would like to start off saying that I really like the idea of melonDS.

However, I ran into a few problems.
First of all, my melonDS (version 0.7.4) saves my pokemon save files as .sav and as .ml1 (depending on the save state). However, it has been mentioned before in another thread that this feature can be disabled by going to system -> settings (thread: MelonDS creating multiple saves that game can't load). Under my system tab it says: Run, Pause, Reset and Stop. So, is there another way to do this?

Secondly, I would like to transfer my save files from my Drastic app (on my phone) to melonDS. I tried all sorts of things but nothing worked. I transferred my (.dss and .dsv) save files from my phone to my pc. In another tread someone suggested to use a hex editor to snip off a part at the end of the save file. However, my .dsv file started with:
DraStic-SaveState--------------- ?&¬Ø1ÄIPGEbxœì|Å÷À÷B'¡#€å”DB9”’€BNý—!ù)UEº¨¤
~ŠJˆ„¿¢
And there was nothing at the end that says to snip off a part.
What can I do?
(^sorry for this, I just can't figure out how to import a image. Please teach me if someone wants to. ^_^)

Finally, is there also a way to use cheats (specifically pokemon cheats)?

Thanks in advance for reading this.

1. you mean 'settings -> savestate settings -> separate savefile'. this feature is disabled by default in 0.7.4 tho, but can't hurt to check. also, savestates aren't the same thing as save files.

2. same here. looks like your file is a savestate. you can't do anything with that, other than loading it into DraStic.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I think I made quite a mess. I just want to ask a few more things:
1. How does the ML1-files work, because when I load a save state (this time I named it right!), it asks for a ML1-file. How can I load in my own save state - just by adding my .sav file in the same directory? Because when I do that the game (pokemon) starts all over again. Did I do something wrong? And how do these ML-1 files work?

By the way, the part of code that I put in my post was actually from the .dss file, my .dsv file does not have such an addition as to snip something off... can I just rename it from .dsv to .sav or do I need a converter for that?

Like you said, the feature you mentioned is indeed in 0.7.4 disabled by default.

Again, thank you very much Aristotura for helping! Really appreciate it!

EDIT: I renamed my .dsv file to a .sav file and it worked for desmume. So my only question that remains is how to load my savestate, because I can only load my ROM?

seems you're confusing save files and savestates

Yeah sorry, I don't know the terminology as I am pretty new to this stuff.

To put it simple: How can I continue my pokemon game on melonDS where I left off on my phone? Can you please explain to me what to do?

I have a .sav converted from a .dsv save file (which is a save file - not save state). What's next?

you need to grab the .dsv file from DraStic and remove the footer with a hex editor, or try some online save file converter.

savestates aren't gonna help you there as they are emulator-specific.

Okay, I've done that. What do I do next?

You now have to place the .sav file on the same directory the .nds file is. Then you just have to open the game and the save will be loaded.

rename the .dsv to .sav. ensure that its size is exactly a power of two (this is important for melonDS).

And what if the .dsv file does not have the footer?

The online converter I used did not work.
Can you link converters that do work?

Okay, so it should be that simple. Open the game as in: open .sav file with melonDS or just open melonDS and open the ROM in the same folder?

your file is looking good.

you don't have to open it in melonDS. it just needs to be alongside the ROM and have the same name. then you load your ROM and the game will load the save data.

I actually hate myself.
I forgot to give it the same name.

Thank you so much for everything!
Keep up the good work Arisotura!!!

If I may, can I also ask how to use the (non-)local wifi?

I tried to do my research but I can't make much out of it. I read something about libpcap?
And when I try to connect to melonAP it gives me error 20100.

Also, when I use two clients of melonAP and try to trade between the two emulators on one pc, it crashes one of the clients.
Can you please help again? ^^

First and foremost, you need to install either wincap or pcap to use the wifi( There's a mode under works that will remove that need, but its pretty unfinished right now).
Also, you gotta run melon on admin mode, to use Wifi(non-local) you gotta use two separate folders for melonds each with their separate firmware.
In both melonds' firmwares(this can be done separetely), load-up a game(that uses wi-fi), go to nitendo wi-fi connection settings of that game(It can be found in different places on each game, on the case of Pokémon SoulSilver you're using it's right there before you load your game), go to options once you are in, then select "Erase Nintendo
WFC Configuration" and then select ok(this must be done in EACH folder of melonds). Once you're done you can try to connect via Wi-fi club.
Edit: Forgot to tell ya, official WFC servers are now defunct. I suggest you try using this alternate server since it does not need rom patching or Action Replay 172.104.88.237, all you need to do to access it is putting the adress in the DNS settings under wfc settings.

@Wifall

What do I do with winpcap or pcap?

You need to install either of these two(I use wincap, never tested the other one).

I suggest installing npcap and you need to enable direct mode in the Wi-Fi settings of MelonDS.

hi...I probably have a similar issue...I have an ethernet connection and npcap installed, but when I go in "config"--->"wi-fi settings" I am not able to select direct mode. About npcap, I just downloaded and installed it, do I have to do anything else (i don't know, configurate something...)? thanks

You gotta run melonDS in admin mode to do that.
