Hello,

i have a question, is Nintendo WFC (Wiimmfi/AltWFC) supported?

or is it planned?

Wiimmfi: https://wiimmfi.de/

AltWFC: https://github.com/polaris-/dwc_network_server_emulator

Unfortunately wifi doesn't work properly for me.

I try to transfer pokemon from diamond to pearl (gen4), but it failed everytime.

My OS is win10 64bits.
Full control allowed.

I can get in trading room. Later problem comes.
A blue screen telling me there's a communication error shows up before pokemon selection menu.
Even though somehow I entered selection menu with success (like 3 in 10 times), process will freeze before transfer complete.

Either default or bind mode does not work.

Hope there's a solution.

Edited 10/28-----------

I tried other functions in pokemon gen4 wifi mode.
Greet: Both characters can see each other's player card. But dialogue will freeze after greeting ends.
Battle: Communication error during pokemon selection. Interestingly, charas will be right back room after error appears. They can still talk to each other but still, error appears successively.

Haven't tried gen5. Maybe it's a little bug in gen4.

Hi,

Just checking in to say you've done an awesome job so far. I'm part of the pvp Advance Wars community. For Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, we've been using altwfc for a while to play. For now we're just using an old, unofficial DeSmuME build, but it doesn't work for many people due to winpcap choking in Win10. So we're eagerly awaiting the day we can get rid of DeSmuME for good (we know the drama behind it and are on your side) and switch to MelonDS.

To use altwfc, everyone has to 1) use a patched ROM that allows altwfc support, and 2) tinker with a bunch of settings, like setting DNS to 172.104.88.237. If possible, could setting the server IP be part of the emulator so that the ROM and in-game DS settings don't need to be tweaked? Basically, code injection so that we don't have to modify the ROM itself.

Citra just announced local wireless support via an online server, along with lobby features. Do you think this could be possible further down the road? This would allow Advance Wars: Dual Strike to be played online without the use of remote desktop applications (such as AnyDesk).

Keep up the good stuff!

Altwfc is something I want to look into. Auto-patching would definitely be a must-have.

Not sure netplay is possible with local wifi, considering the timings are tight and it sends a lot of packets.

how about syncing the timing of instances or pausing other instances when one is paused/stalled when connection is detected like gba-gcn connection of dolphin and vba-m.

Tested out Megaman Starforce 3 Red Joker and Black Ace and so far they've been quite stable without much lag at 45-60 FPS during a LAN Wi-Fi Battle on Windows 7 and Windows 10 which is quite impressive. I was desperate to try and see if I could use Hamachi to play with a friend but I was too naive to believe it'd work. Anyway, for MMSF3 I am really impressed so far.

I hope you manage to wrestle it out vs the Wi-Fi and fix what is needed to make it more better, even if it will take a long while to implement correctly. Good luck.

EDIT - Image of it working here:

Hey,

I have 2 computers on the same network (both windows x64). Both running pokemon platinum and in the wifi room waiting to interact. Both are using the same version from your download page (0.6b)

My laptop sees its player and my PC's player.

My PC sees its player but not the laptops player.

I've tried switching between binding to any socket on both. If I turn off any socket, neither of them see the other. Any idea why this might be the case? It's like either the laptop uploads no information or the PC can't download any information.

EDIT: I've tried resetting the wifi settings of the emulator in order to get a new connection ID which doesnt help. I've also tried a different firmware download

EDIT2: Running 2 instances on the laptop works perfectly

Hi everyone,

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question, but I wasn't really able to find any info on this anywhere else on the forum or on r/emulation.

Is it possible, or will it ever be possible, to connect melonDS running any version of a Pokemon game (in my case Platinum), to a real DS/3DS running another game of the same generation? I know the implications of this seems crazy, but I'm not a programmer so I'm not sure if it's already possible or would never be possible.

Very impressed by what's happening here, keep up the good work!

Harry

it is not currently possible for melonds to connect with a real DS and it may never be

probably not a good idea to publicly say where you got your ROM

regardless, wifi is in a 'beta' status, it sometimes works sometimes doesn't

source issue is nothing you can fix yourself unless you have some coding and emulation knowledge. basically, wifi support is not good enough.

there's a wifi setting you can try changing, but that's about it.

Weirdly it seems like WiFi becomes reliable enough to trade Pokémon if you disable the framerate limiter from config menu.
I found this info on reddit and it was my savior, I managed to trade 4 pokemons in a row from diamond to platinum in the union room.

No wonder some of these aren't working right. And if I may say, the Wiimmfi support isn't available in a DeSmuMe build and this emulator (MelonDS)?

I've been trying hard to just get stuff working lol.

This error is generaly caused due to the emulator not being able to detect a ethernet adapter(because you probs didn't ran it in admin mode). As far I'm concerned, Wiimmfi does support emulators, but if you are not able to connect to Wimmfi for some reason try using one of Zwei.moe dns': 172.104.88.237 / 104.131.93.87. Probs I could make a Wifi tutorial for the emulator if there's enough interest(or in my case, time).
