I'm testing this with a friend. We each have used the tutorial here > https://melonds.kuribo64.net/board/thread.php?id=285 < and have successfully connected. We have received friend codes, entered the WiFi room, and are able to interact. But once we try to communicate, the game will attempt to communicate with the other person until it fails and we get some variant of error code. Below I have the sequence that happens.
https://imgur.com/a/0y4SVhs (Apologies for the imugr link, I don't know how to embed images.) As you can see, I get a 61010 error when trying to go online. But simply trying again always works. The same cannot be said for the 91010 error code. |

This kind of issue is frequent, but it is hard to tell exactly the reason for the failure. It probably is a problem in the network (ISP, routers, etc.), but it may also be a problem on the server-side.
For a detailed list of error codes, check this link: https://forum.wii-homebrew.com/index.php/Thread/51738-Collecting-Error-Codes/?__cf_chl_jschl_tk__=pmd_bt.7up48kSoOAmb_.vuywbUDVOHT2Q2HlREdu1nyG4E-1631332637-0-gqNtZGzNAlCjcnBszQX9 If you want to investigate further, you can try to install a Packet Sniffer, such as Wireshark, on your computer, and try to track the packet communications to understand better what is happening. In general, the communication in the room uses TCP but the trade/battle/GTS process, uses UDP protocol. Some cmd commands that can be useful: tracert [DNS address] - Will display the whole path the packets are using from your computer to the destination. ping [DNS address] - Useful for measuring the connection timing delays nslookup nas.nintendowifi.net [DNS address] - Check the DNS server connectivity |

Yeah, Wireshark could be used to check which ports are being blocked or if the ISP itself is doing so as previously stated. You could also try using the direct connection method, which solves these problems in some cases, you'll need to install npcap and run melonDS in administrator mode to do this tho. Error 91010 also may mean that you are using a firmware backup that was banned from the server tho, try deleting the WFC config as described in the Extra Step by the end of the tutorial and after that try following all the steps from start. |
