I just recently got back into Pokémon on my dsi when I realized how many functionalities like WiFi had been shut down, then I found melonds about two days ago and I’ve been enjoying Pokémon Platinum, as well as found dns settings on a thread here that work for the gts in Platinum if others are still struggling to connect. I just wanted to ask if there’s already a thread people use to set up trades or some other type of communication, as I’ve got wireless connection and it seems trying to create two instances to trade myself will be spotty and filling out the pokédex would be fun. From my understanding unless someone can correct me, gen 4 games should be able to trade each other, or would this only be if they used the same primary dns?

I have traded with other people. You need the same dns. Currently only pkmnclassic offers this functionality.
For gen 4 I found no one. For gen 5 you can find players at night. If more people played gen 4 it'll catch up. Moreover we can connect to a normal DS too. So it's a matter of popularity.
I'm myself doing a shiny dex .

Really? I haven’t even come across that, I’m an entry level programming student so I’m having as much fun trying to understand this project as I am playing it, would the emulator need the physical ds’ firmware or just a connection to the device while it’s running with the pertinent game card? Also going for some complete dexes on probably Platinum/SoulSilver. Also for those not familiar with PokeClassic, https://pkmnclassic.net/
