Now, this is going to sound quite strange to you, but about two weeks ago, a long-lost piece of media - a piece McDonald's training software for the Nintendo DSi - was recently found and dumped so the world can enjoy it. I know this forum doesn't support piracy, but there's only TWO PEOPLE in the entire world that are known to have it, so I literally can't buy a copy of this. If you need more info, watch this documentary-style video about it, just to get an idea of how rare this is:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e6xOBCAVvA

Something interesting about this game is that it's password-locked, the password being bound to the DSi's hardware. This is done by taking the DSi's MAC address and generating a code. Someone in the newly-formed community for this game knows for sure that this is the case because he reverse engineered it. He created a tool that lets you input your DSi's MAC address and it spits out a working code.

Now onto the problem: melonDS is incapable of creating save files for this game. At the point in the code setup when it normally creates the save file, melonDS does create a .sav save file for the game, but the game spits out an error message stating that it fails to create a save file. Now, I WOULD just use desmume for this, but that emulator randomizes the MAC address each boot and hasn't added a static MAC address feature yet.

Can someone look into this? There's an entire preservation community that can't create save files for this game on emulator, and it would be a big help if this could get fixed. I know this isn't quite a normal topic of discussion, but it's one that needs to be had.

The issue is probably that this game isn't in the romlist, like with SM256. I know melonDS used to have heuristics to detect save types before the romlist. Is that still a thing for games that aren't in the romlist, or does it just fail whenever a game isn't in the romlist? If it's the former, then I guess the heuristics need to be improved.

I'm completely new to melonDS, but that sounds like a logical explanation. Any chance of getting it added to the romlist?

that's not hard, we just need to know the game code, the rom size and of course the type of the save memory.
