The game crashes at the same point every time during the intro. The same thing happened back in the days on older flashcarts when using SD cards that didn't have fast enough read speeds (and, more recently, with nds-bootstrap on DSi/3DS. Also caused by slow SD cards, most likely.)

It works on DeSmuME, so an option is to let the intro play through on there, save after the first battle, and resume on melonDS.

can you test on the latest revision and tell me if it still crashes there? there was a fix related to cart timings, so I guess we never know

I don't actually have the setup for compiling melonDS anymore, and there were enough issues last time with getting Code Blocks properly set up that I'm not sure I want to go through setting that up again :x are there pre-built binaries available?

if by latest revision arisotura means 0.7.4, then it's right there: https://melonds.kuribo64.net/downloads.php. if she means the latest commit, then you'll have to compile I think.

Has the issue been resolved? I've downloaded the most recent revision (0.8.3) but I've been having no luck getting it to work, still.

latest revision means latest commit, not latest release.

I played it until the first battle starts and it didn't crash.

Though the game itself seems to be buggy, because it tries to DMA into an unmapped area (needs the printf to be removed to get anyway with the console open).

it seems not to be fixed after all, I just didn't play long enough

I had a bug report for the Switch port: https://gbatemp.net/threads/melonds-for-switch-continuation.570021/page-3#post-9139930 and was eable to reproduce it on latest master

tried arm9 timing hacks branch and it doesn't work there as well

as suggested by the OP, this is likely a cartridge timing bug. It works if the read times are decreased.

unfortunately there isn't really anything which can be done about this except better arm9 timings see https://github.com/Arisotura/melonDS/issues/380
