I'm running Pokemon Platinum, and I've been trying to make an in-game trade between two different files on the same computer happen. I do most of my gameplay in Desmume (it's a sound-quality thing) and extract the data when I wanna do some trading. I've got my main game file and a spare file that's progressed just far enough for trading to happen, and I've already successfully ping-ponged a mon between the files once. It took several tries to make the trade work without a communication error, but the two files were talking to each other before I even checked bind socket to any address.

Recently, I tried it again, but the two files just would not acknowledge each other. Both of them are sitting in the union room, and I can tell by the power surge I can feel off my laptop's LAN port that they're doing something, but no matter what neither character shows up in the other one's room. I've tried exiting and reentering the room several times on both files, turning off every limit on melonDS that could possibly affect this and several that don't, closing every other application I have running, restarting my laptop, leaving my laptop off for a while and turning it on again, re-extracting my main file from Desmume, redownloading melonDS, and bringing melonDS and my save files to better computers, but no matter what I try neither file acknowledges the other's existence.

I'd ask what I'm doing wrong, but I honestly don't know what I did right the first time. I think I need to know what non-obvious factors could be affecting my files' ability to communicate, or if it's just a matter of waiting for the stars to align. If it is just a matter of constantly reconnecting until it works, would I be able to get the same effect of entering and reentering the room by shotgunning savestates? It's Platinum, and those saving sequences are really long.

I think that you have to disable the frame limiter for it to work.

That was one of the first things I tried.

Firstly, check if both the PC and the laptop have wincap (or npcap in wincap compatible mode for Windows 10), also check if you have melonDS in the latest version on both machines. Also delete the wfc config on both firmwares (this trick happens to avoid MAC address conflicts), that way they'll both have different a mac address.

Local Wi-Fi /=/ online Wi-Fi.
But he could use online Wi-Fi to imitate local Wi-Fi its possible but he needs to use an Ethernet connection(or maybe it could work on a loop back adapter on the same PC).
