For some odd reason, I boot up any game in 0.8.3, and all I'm getting is one screen, vertically-stretched to cover the area of both screens. I've not messed with any settings aside from, of course, setting my controller up. What's going on with that?

this happened to me, i solved it just now, check, is your screen sizing on 'default' or 'auto' and not 'top only' or 'bottom only'
