I know that for playing DS games on DSi, we already have R4i cards and TWiLight Menu ++, but I don't wanna hack my DSi to install TWiLight Menu ++, so I quickly get the idea of melonDS on DSi without Hacking it, is it possible to do that? What do you think about it?

you mean porting melonDS onto the DSi?

Yes, without running it with hiyaCFW and Unlaunch, just porting it like a normal DSiWare game.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but getting melonDS to run well on Switch is already hard, so you can imagine how the situation is on DSi…

Emulation always requires a multiple of the processing power of the original system.

So you mean it's impossible?

yes, it's also pretty pointless. nds-bootstrap is a good solution for this problem, because it utilises all the existing DS hardware and only emulates the game cart.

But wait, you never tested before about porting melonds to DSi, you need to test before you judge. If it does not work correctly, just forgot the idea.

then I suggest you go ahead and test that idea

spoiler: it's going to be a massive trainwreck

you don't need to fully test certain things to know they won't work. We know melonDS and the DSi pretty well, so even if you manage to get melonDS running on an DSi (which would already require all sorts of hacks to get the memory usage down) it will run badly. Also before there was nds-bootstrap there was an attempt at bringing desmume to the 3DS. Even with JIT and other hacks it didn't reach fullspeed on New 3DS systems! Just to make this clear, I estimate the New 3DS to be atleast 2-4x faster than a DSi.

Also you can use TWiLight Menu++ without installing anything thanks to the Memory Pit exploit!

How to write an emulator
1. throw code to be emulated somewhere
2. make memory system that allows accessing that code
3. emulate CPU
4. have fun implementing all the other hardware
