All that comes from the download is a file simply called "melonDS" with no extension, and when i try to launch it, it tells me that no known program could open it. Is there a seperate launcher application im supposed to use to run it? |

Use chmod +x melonDS and then use ./melonDS. It should work if the required packages are installed. If you're running a distro that doesn't have a Qt5 version above 12, install flatpak and install melonDS from there. |

If you have flatpak installed, you can install melonDS like flatpak install net.kuribo64.melonDS . This way you also get updates when a new version is released. |
